Behind the Workshop: The People Who Make Martleather

Every Martleather piece is made in a small workshop in Marrakech, by two people: Marouane and Abdelah. There's no factory line, no mass production, and no outsourcing — just two craftsmen, working through each piece by hand, one at a time.

Small-Batch, on Purpose

Working at this scale is a deliberate choice, not a limitation we're waiting to outgrow. It means every bag that leaves the workshop has actually passed through the hands of the two people responsible for it — not a production line, not a subcontractor. It also means output is naturally limited. We'd rather make fewer bags well than more bags quickly.

Full-Grain, Vegetable-Tanned, Start to Finish

We work with full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather — the kind that ages and develops character with use rather than staying static. Choosing this material over cheaper, chrome-tanned alternatives is part of the same small-batch philosophy: it takes more care to work with, and it rewards that care over years of use, not just in the first unboxing photo.

Why Marrakech

Morocco has a long history of leatherwork, and working from Marrakech keeps us close to that tradition and to the materials themselves. It's also simply where the workshop is — no branding exercise, just where the work happens.

What This Means for You

When you buy a Martleather piece, you're not buying from a warehouse. You're buying something that a small, known team actually made — which also means production takes time, and quantities are limited by design. We think that trade-off is worth it, and we hope you do too.
